The Seattle Orchestra (SOO) is an inclusive, community-based ensemble open to musicians of all ages and skill levels—no audition required. Modeled after the Philadelphia Community Orchestra, SOO provides a welcoming space for people who want to make music together, whether you are returning to your instrument after many years, picking it up for the first time, or seeking new creative challenges.
For its inaugural season (Spring 2026), rehearsals will be held other Saturday from April 11th, 3:00–5:00 PM at the University of Washington.
The orchestra explores an eclectic repertoire that goes beyond the traditional canon. Our programs include rarely heard works from the past, experimental and contemporary music from the 20th and 21st centuries, graphic and text-based scores, and opportunities for group improvisation.
The only requirements are that participants bring their own instrument, attend rehearsals regularly, and contribute to a collaborative, open-minded musical environment.
